Beyond Meat +4% after opening direct online channel

Aug. 27, 2020 9:12 AM ET|About: Beyond Meat, Inc. (BYND)|By: Clark Schultz, SA News Editor
Beyond Meat (NASDAQ:BYND) says it will be launching a new e-commerce site to make it easier for consumers to shop for Beyond Meat products.

The company says the site will feature a "vast portfolio" of signature plant-based meats, including all-new bulk packs, mixed product bundles, limited-time offers, trial packs and more.

The addition of a direct-to-consumer site complements the company’s expansive retail presence in 26K retail outlets in the U.S.

Plant-based meat company Beyond Meat (NASDAQ:BYND) launched an e-commerce site today, bypassing retail outlets and selling directly to consumers. The site will provide access to bulk items not found in stores, including variety packs offering an assortment of Beyond Meat products.

Orders from the new site will be delivered via UPS two-day shipping in insulated boxes. And in an effort to align with Beyond Meat's value of environmental sustainability, the box will be recyclable. Furthermore, shipping will be with UPS carbon-neutral shipping.

Beyond Meat isn't the only plant-based meat company looking to skip the grocery aisle. Kellogg (NYSE:K) is known for breakfast cereals, but it also owns MorningStar Farms, which produces plant-based meats under its Incogmeato line. Today, for Burger Day, free Incogmeato samples are being delivered via Postmates in Dallas and Denver. The company hopes it will give curious consumers an opportunity to try plant-based meat for the first time. But the products will remain available for in-store purchase only.

Beyond Meat products remain available for purchase in over 26,000 U.S. retail outlets. In the first half of 2020, the company's retail sales in the U.S. have increased 180% year over year to $140 million. But its e-commerce site creates a new distribution channel for the growth stock to continue increasing sales.

By providing products in bulk packaging, Beyond Meat is able to reduce its costs by decreasing packaging expenses. Long term, the company hopes to reduce costs enough to bring the price of its products below that of traditional animal protein. In Q2, Beyond Meat's Beyond Beef patties were only around 20% more expensive than their animal-protein counterpart

Starbucks adds plant-based items to Asian menus from Beyond Meat, others
September 8, 2020, 9:21 AM GMT+7
HONG KONG, Sept 8 (Reuters) - Starbucks Corp said on Tuesday it will add plant-based food and beverages to menus across Asia from September, including products from Impossible Foods, Oatly and Beyond Meat Inc, as it targets more environment-conscious diners.

The Seattle-based coffee chain said it was introducing products in markets such as Hong Kong, Singapore, New Zealand, Taiwan and Thailand that suit local tastes and preferences.

Producing plant-based food and beverages is less demanding on the environment compared with items relying on animal agriculture, which typically needs far more land and water.

Starbucks said its new food items will include the Spiced Impossible Puff and Maize Impossible Sandwich in Hong Kong, and Beyond Meat Bolognese Penne in Taiwan.

In Singapore, it will launch the Impossible Wrap comprising an Impossible Burger patty, avocado omelette, mushroom, caramelised onion and cheese.

Drinks will include the Oatmilk Cocoa Macchiato from Oatly in Malaysia, the Philippines and elsewhere.

Starbucks began offering plant-based meals in Canada in February, and in April said it would do likewise in China. The initiative comes as Impossible Foods, Oatly and Beyond Meat look to expand into Asia. (Reporting by Farah Master; Editing by Christopher Cushing)

BEYOND MEAT, INC. ANNOUNCES HISTORIC AGREEMENT TO BRING PRODUCTION OF PLANT-BASED MEAT FOR THE CHINA MARKET TO JIAXING EDZ, CHINA, A STRATEGIC LOCATION NEAR SHANGHAI

SEPTEMBER 8, 2020
Download PDF
SHANGHAI, China, Sept. 08, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Beyond Meat (Jiaxing) Food Co., Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Beyond Meat, Inc. (NASDAQ: BYND), has signed an agreement with Jiaxing Economic & Technological Development Zone (JXEDZ) to design and develop manufacturing facilities in the JXEDZ, including a state-of-the-art production facility to manufacture plant-based meat products including beef, pork and chicken under the Beyond Meat brand in China. The production facilities will be located in the JXEDZ, a historic and commercially important development zone with ready access to Shanghai.

Beyond Meat, Inc. will be the first multinational company focused solely on plant-based meat production to bring its own major production facility into China.

Micky Pant, Senior Advisor to Beyond Meat said: "Beyond Meat is building the perfect road to long term success in China. It has the confidence to set up dedicated, cutting edge production capacity via a wholly-owned subsidiary, located on the mainland close to Shanghai. The JXEDZ is a visionary and proactive partner with an excellent record in supporting the food industry."

"China is one of the world's largest markets for animal-based meat products, and potentially for plant-based meat," said Ethan Brown, CEO and founder of Beyond Meat. "We are delighted and confident that after several months of productive and collaborative discussions, we will partner with the JXEDZ to develop two production facilities, including one of the world's largest and technologically advanced plant-based meat factories. We are very impressed by the capabilities and vision of the JXEDZ and they are the ideal partner for us in this vitally important country and market." Candy Chan, General Manager for Beyond Meat in China added: "With its expertise in the food industry, proximity to Shanghai, and excellent logistics and people capabilities, the JXEDZ will be the perfect partner and location for our ambitious plans for the China market."

Mr. SHENG, Director General of the Administrative Committee of the Jiaxing Economic & Technological Development Zone, welcoming the cooperation and partnership said, "We are very happy to welcome Beyond Meat to our Economic Development Zone and to China. It is our vision to support high-quality investors in starting their ventures in China, and we are aligned with the vision of Beyond Meat to bring new, high technology food products that are nutritious and environmentally friendly to the Chinese market. We look forward to a long relationship and mutually beneficial partnership with this dynamic new age company."

Work is ongoing on the project, and trial production is expected to commence within months with full scale production in early 2021. China is expected to be one of the most important markets in the world for Beyond Meat, as a production and R&D center, and as a major market in the years to come.

Beyond Meat and Tyson Foods Post Strong Gains Despite Swine Fever in Europe
With ASF in Germany, Europe's biggest pork producer, market effects could be significant.

Major U.S.-based pork producer Tyson Foods (NYSE:TSN) saw its share value bid up more than 4% this morning after African swine fever, also known as ASF or "pig Ebola," was confirmed to be present in Germany, Europe's biggest pork producer and exporter. Plant-based faux meat manufacturer Beyond Meat (NASDAQ:BYND) has joined the rally with its shares up nearly 6% in midday trading.

Julia Klockner, Germany's agricultural minister, says the prestigious Friedrich Loeffler Institute has confirmed "the first case of African swine fever in a boar" in samples taken from a dead wild boar close to the border with Poland, according to Politico. The virus puts Germany's 26 million-strong herd of commercial swine at risk of infection and mass culls like those which earlier devastated China's pig herds, besides ending Germany's classification as "ASF-free."

While Germany's case isn't yet known to have made the jump from wild boars to commercial herds, Reuters reports South Korea has already banned imports from the country. Klockner remarked the Germans "already had contact with China [last] night," highlighting the importance of China's huge pork import market.

An ASF outbreak in Germany could potentially give Tyson Foods the opportunity to greatly boost its exports to China, possibly helping it recover from COVID-19's effects. Beyond Meat, whose plant-based supply chain is completely immune to African swine fever, was already gaining this morning after it was reported its rival Impossible Foods is mired in Chinese regulatory approval while Beyond is already building production facilities in Shanghai. This, of course, also positions it well to profit if meat substitute demand is driven higher by lack of pork from Germany.
