SUBJECT EXPLANATION OF THE DECREASE IN NET PROFIT OF THIRD QUARTER 2005
FROM THE SAME PERIOD OF THE PREVIOUS YEAR OVER 20%
ATTENTION PRESIDENT, THE STOCK EXCHANGE OF THAILAND
Khon Kaen Sugar Industry Public Company Limited ("KSL" or the "Company") and
its subsidiaries would like to report on the 3rd quarter 2005 (May to June 2005)
financial performance. The company had net profit of THB 73.992 million,
comparing to the performance of the same period last year
the net profit decreased by THB 143.443 million or the decrease of 66.0%.
The main reasons of the decrease are as follows:
1. Due to the drought in Thailand in 2004/05, the company's cane crushed volumes
had dropped by 19.5% from the volume in 2003/04 of 5.05 million tons to
4.07 million tons in 2004/05. In addition, the revenue sharing system
caused the higher cane price and higher oil price in 2005 also caused
the increase in the company's other production costs such as fuel and
lubricant oil, chemical, sugar bag etc. These factors have impacts on
the increase of 30.2% in total production cost of 2005,
with what higher than the increase in sugar selling price of 21.5%
in the 3rd quarter of 2005 comparing at the same period last year.
As a result, gross margin from sales and services had dropped
from 22.7% in the 3rd quarter of 2004 to 16.3% in the 3rd quarter of 2005.
2. In the 3rd quarter of 2004, 2 subsidiaries of the Company had tax credit from
the group restructuring which was recorded in consolidated financial
statement as corporate income tax credit THB 27.533 million.
Comparing to consolidated financial statement of 3rd quarter of 2005,
the Company had the corporate income tax expense at THB 38.966 million.
